Senior services in Renfrew are abundant and include assisted living, transportation, entertainment, social clubs and specialty events.
The Renfrew & Area Seniors' Home Support Inc. assists seniors to remain as active as possible for as long as possible in their own homes and communities. They provide a wide array of services such as home maintenance, transportation, friendly visiting and meal programs.
Renfrew’s newest addition to the list of Senior’s services is the Golden Age Activity Centre. Seniors are encouraged to walk-in to the Centre anytime during business hours. There are places to sit around, chat and make new friends, as well as activities to participate in.
For seniors who have difficulty getting mobile, Sunshine Coach Service of Renfrew provides accessible transportation to those with disabilities that make using regular modes of transportation inappropriate to their needs.
Senior entertainment is a big part of Renfrew living. The Renfrew Legion offers live music every Saturday afternoon and moves it onto their large outdoor patio during the summer months, as well as other entertainment. The RCAF Assn 433 Wing hosts live entertainment most Saturday nights as well as many specialty events and dances to raise funds for a variety of charitable causes. They host Bingo on Sunday and Wednesday nights.
Seniors who wish to volunteer have a broad range of organizations to choose from. These include The Renfrew Victoria Hospital Foundation, The Salvation Army, The United Way, The Renfrew and District Food Bank, as well as many service clubs such as The Lions Club, Kinsmen/Kinettes, the Rotary Club and the Knights of Columbus.
Renfrew also has many other clubs and events targeted towards active seniors. These include Champlain Seniors Bingo, Renfrew Seniors Club 51, The Quilters Guild, The Art Guild, The Renfrew Silver Seniors Club, The Rusty Blades Hockey Club and the Renfrew Toastmasters Club.
With a variety of events and services available every day of the week, Renfrew is a senior’s paradise.
