PUBLIC RELATIONS: At our January General Meeting, we were pleased to present a monetary donation of $200 to the Renfrew Girl Guides, from our Nevada Account.
Nevada Chair Comrade Sheila Riopelle and President Greg Walbeck were pleased to present the cheque to Guide Evelyn Leclerc and her mother, Guide Leader Tania Leclerc.
The Branch was surprised – to say the least! – when Comrade Tena Miller presented President Greg Walbeck with a cheque from the Ladies Auxiliary, in the amount of $5,000.00. We are very fortunate to have such an active and dedicated Ladies Auxiliary within our Branch. Thank to you very much to our Ladies Auxiliary!
The Royal Canadian Legion has recently taken “unprecedented steps” towards individuals that are wearing medals and decorations to which they are not entitled – which has coined the term “Stolen Valour”. The wearing of uniforms and official orders, decorations and medals by those not entitled to do so is actually an offence, under Section 419 of the Criminal Code of Canada. Correspondence from Dominion Command has been posted on the bulletin board.
We are also pleased to report that our website has been updated to an easy-to-read format and will be updated on a regular basis. Please keep reviewing the website and Facebook pages, as they are a good source of information. Zone G7 has also created a Facebook page, which enables Branches within our Zone to promote all coming events. Please keep the attached calendars available to see all coming events and activities at the Branch at a glance.

The Shortest Decade: Addressing the Coming Climate Crunch
The United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has been unequivocal: without significant action to limit global warming to a 1.5 degrees, humans will increasingly suffer from the effects of extreme weather events, disease and the loss of habitable land. Canada simply cannot achieve its climate goals unless the government can successfully establish the investment environment that will allow Canada’s business community to offset emissions elsewhere through energy products. Canada’s business community will be a driver in effective and responsible climate action. We hope our policy makers will be able to say the same.

Hello Ottawa Valley Vendor!
You are invited to participate in the 2020 Bliss Wedding Show in Renfrew
Sunday, January 12 2020
The focus of BLISS wedding shows is to provide local couples with the opportunity to meet local, Ottawa Valley Based wedding vendors. To be inspired by these local vendors and to be informed that all of their wedding dreams can be fulfilled right here, locally.
Kelly and I are happy to announce that this year we will be coordinating the Bliss Wedding show!
We will be keeping much of the show the same but will be adding our own flare to maximize exposure for all vendors involved.
A few of these changes include but are not limited to:
(the more these are shared around, the more potential business we all get)
A vendor information package is attached to this email.
If you are a vendor that is unable to attend the show but would still like exposure for $20 you are welcome to include any pamphlets or information in the “loot-bags”.
You are encouraged to register early so that we have a larger budget to spend on advertising, which in turn will lead to higher attendance by brides at the shows.
After December 6th, we will also open up registration to those businesses outside of the Lanark, Renfrew County and surrounding area. We always have a waiting list of Ottawa based wedding businesses that are interested in becoming vendors at our shows.
We look forward to another great show, and should you have any questions, please feel free to contact either Kelly or myself.
Warm wishes for another successful wedding season in 2020!
Our mission is to serve Veterans, including serving Military and RCMP members and their families, to promote Remembrance, and to serve our communities and our country.

POPPY: Greeting Comrades. First of all, a heart-filled thank you to all who volunteered to assist in this year’s Poppy Campaign and to all who made donations to it. Renfrew is a wonderful and generous town. It seems to have been a resounding success both financially are in the participation. Our total tagging deposit for this year is $8,699.15. In 2018, our total tagging deposits for the same period was $8,497.56, for an increase of $201.59. Our total poppy store boxes deposit to date is $8,019.28, which our 2018 deposit for the same period was $6,299.67, resulting in a profit of $1,719.61. Thus, the total profit to date for this year is $1,921.20. Also this year, we had only 6 spots not covered during the two-day tagging period. We have not, as yet, totaled the wreath sales.
I do want to personally thank Comrade Jessica Thompson for helping me keep my head about water during the campaign, Comrade Rob Marsh for helping me get all the wreaths organized and out, and especially to Comrade Tena Miller for putting up with me over the last few weeks, and for saying “yes” every time I needed someone in a hurry. GREAT JOB EVERYONE.
People have asked me, “where do the poppy funds go?”, and “what are they used for?”. All donations made through our campaign to into a Poppy Trust Fund, and all dollars raised locally are used locally. All funds are solely used to support our veterans and their families. I’ll just give you three examples. If a veteran was in need and needed a new battery for his/her mobility scooter, he/she would get a new battery. If the veteran needed a hearing aid, he/she could get a hearing aid. If he/she needed heating oil, they’d get that. And that’s what this money is entitled to. There are very strict guidelines on how the funds are to be used.
Thank you again for your support. WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.
Bruce Ferguson, Poppy Chair
PROPERTY: The Lounge is getting a new coat of paint, and it will brighten up the Lounge when it is finished. We have also upgraded the lighting to more energy-efficient bulbs. Thank you to Dave Guyea and Mark Guyea for their assistance. Richard Fitzsimmons, Property Co-Chair

We have made donations to The Royal Canadian Legion, The Sunshine Coach and the Food Bank this past year. Merry Christmas and best wishes for a blessed and Happy New Year to all, from your President & Executive. Irene Rosebrugh, President, Renfrew Silver Seniors
1ST RENFREW SCOUTS: Things got a slow start but is now picking up. For the Scout Troop we have another leader who transferred from BC with his son. We have for the Beaver Group another little one coming to try it out he is from Eganville.
The Troop are learning about outdoors adventures, they even seem to enjoy it. They even visited the Police Station. This Group will be participating in the Santa Claus Parade, can't wait to see what they are preparing. Much more to come in the new year. The Beavers have been on several hikes. They as well are learning some outdoor skills.
For Remembrance Day Parade the Beavers and Scouts participated in the Parade. Our outdoor skills came in handy on how to stay warm. The Scout Troop had a new adventure and served at the Remembrance Day Dinner. They had so much fun and said they didn't even work too hard. Some parents were impressed how well they did.
All groups are planning Christmas Parties and what they would like to do in the new year.
From 1st Renfrew Scouting we would like to wish everyone a safe and a Merry Christmas. Can't wait to let you know about our new adventures in 2020. Yours in Scouting, Susan Fleming

PUBLIC RELATIONS: We have been fortunate to extend financial support to the community this year, and have presented cheques to the Sunshine Coach, Renfrew Hospice and Renfrew PeeWee Timberwolves – the Rep Team, and a house league team. At our November 11 Remembrance Day dinner, we accepted a donation from our Sgt.-at-arms Rob Marsh, of a framed poster of our fallen Canadians in Afghanistan and the awarding of the Legionnaire of the Year award to Comrade Richard Fitzsimmons. Local artist/sculptor Richard Gill attended our November general meeting and donated a piece of artwork entitled “War is Over” to the Branch, which will be hung in the Lounge in due course.
Renfrew Hospice: A donation of $2,000 from our Nevada account was made on October 23, 2019.
Renfrew PeeWee Rep Team: A donation of $850.00 from Ways & Means and Nevada, to cover the team’s registration fee for a hockey tournament hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion in Brockville in January 2020.
Renfrew PeeWee House League: A donation of $850.00 from Ways & Means and Nevada, to cover the team’s registration fee for a hockey tournament hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion in Brockville in January 2020. .
